BLACKTIE

Formal Wear for Men

What To Wear: EveningWear With Dinner Suit/Tuxedo

  • Shirt – A wide variety of shirts can be worn with a dinner jacket from a plain silk in a natural shade to pleat fronted and hand pleated, ribbed or embroidered variations.

 - Colours are also acceptable.

 - Collars can be wing or turn-down.

 - Cuffs should always be double.

 - Black dress studs rather than buttons are currently fashionable for the front of dress shirts.

 - If buttons are used they are normally hidden by a fly-front.

  • Tie – Black silk bows are always acceptable especially at very formal affairs. For more lively functions anything goes and you have a wonderful selection to choose from at Blacktie!
  • Cummerbund – Should be pleated with a small pocket in the pleat. Usually the cummerbund matches the bow tie. Cummerbund or waistcoats look well when worn over shirts with laid-on fronts – they successfully bridge the gap between the bottom of the shirt and the trouser band.
  • Waistcoat – For very formal occasions your waistcoat should be made from a similar fabric to the suit or from a black satin. For less formal occasions any design is acceptable either with a black tie or one to match the waistcoat.
  • Socks – Black silk or fine cotton are recommended.
  • Shoes – Black patent leather lace-up or slip-on.
  • Handkerchief – White silk or a design to match your cummerbund and bow tie.
  • Scarf – White silk with hand-knotted fringe.
